Fatigue related incidents and accidents result from impaired operator alertness associated with the 24/7 operations, rapid time-zone transitions, and workforce constraints characteristic of modern economies. It is estimated that 40% of the global workforce often operates in a fatigued state. Although fatigue and the related accidents have been on the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board’s list of ”Most Wanted Transportation Safety Improvements” for the past 20 years, accident statistics have remained essentially unchanged, in part because fatigue is difficult to measure and manage. That is until today.
Department of Defense R&D provides a dual use technological answer for dealing with fatigue. Originally a U.S. military project, our fatigue modeling software has been optimized and scientifically validated to identify and help mitigate costly fatigue-related problems in real-world operations. Studies and use by the U.S. Federal Railroad Administration, Department of Transportation, and the Federal Aviation Administration have confirmed the independent scientific validations. Beta tested in 2007 and 2008, both our software and our world-class actigraph (SleepBand) are market ready and approved by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Fatigue Science provides flexible solutions for the two primary causes of fatigue in the workplace.
Rigid Schedules: Fatigue-management solutions for organizations that characteristically use rigid and overriding schedules that dictate fixed hours or work shifts with very little day-to-day deviation, and little worker-induced variability.
Variable or On Demand Work Hours: Fatigue-management solutions for organizations in which schedules often consist of more flexible, variable, or fluctuating work hours dictated by workers themselves or by relatively unpredictable job demands.
Depending on the unique nature of every work environment, we can address the factors responsible for worker and organizational fatigue risks. And we can do it in a way that empowers the client to solve fatigue related problems in a user-oriented, comprehensive, and systematic fashion. Our software produces fatigue risk assessments at the business unit level. We then provide clients with a comprehensive suite of tools that supports a continuous improvement process to reduce fatigue related accidents.
